Thoughts on Harry and Ginny's Relationship.
Many people's favourite ship is Ginny and Harry. The question is, why? Is it because she's 'loved' him since she was 10? Is it because they look cute together? Is it because that way, Harry would fall in love with a red head just like his father? Is it because he saved her life? That Valentine's Day card? This picture?
Personally, I would say I like them together, but they didn't seem to have enough chemistry. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood-Prince, JKR told us that they were very happy together, but we didn't get to witness their relationship. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't work when the author just tells us how things are going, I need to read about it, and see the actual scenes. A good relationship that had that would be Ron and Hermione's, because you got to see it develop, but more on that later. (In another post.)
Also, in the movies, they are really awkward together, like they're not quite sure what to do or say to each other. Bonnie Wright's acting would have a part to play in that, but I expected more from Daniel Radcliffe. I wish they did a better job.
I don't enjoy Harry/Ginny fan fictions too much, because there isn't as much to invent as Lily/James fan fictions. Of course you can do those scenes they spent together at the lake, the dates they went on, but you can't do full length development stories, where you see their whole relationship develop through sixth year or something. Well, I guess theres the gap from the end of Deathly Hallows to Nineteen Years Later, but you don't have much of a guide line at all of what happened other than the fact that they had children. I mean, they look good together, but I somehow don't have a good grip on Ginny's character. I wouldn't be able to write up a convincing conversation between her and Harry. However, that might just be me. To tell the truth, the last time I read Harry/Ginny fan fiction in my memory was when I was eleven, which was a looong time ago. I'll probably check some out later. if anyone has suggestions for me to read, or particular good ones, comment below please? Thanks! (:

This is interesting, because I was totally thinking the same thing. When I read the books and saw how Harry and Ginny got together and all, I couldn't help thinking: What was there between them? Their relationship isn't really quite at all interesting or meaningful in anyway. You don't really see any ups and downs or how the characters are changed throughout the relationship between Harry and Ginny, unlike that of Ron and Hermione. Maybe it's because Ginny wasn't really quite a developed character for most of the books like Hermione was, but considering what a great writer J.K. Rowling was I think she could have made the relationship between Harry and Ginny far more memorable. Even the love between Harry's parents is more memorable despite the fact it's not depicted quite one hundred percent clearly, and though I've never really read much fan fiction it's going to be a far more interesting read than a relationship between Harry and Ginny.
And yes, when I watch the movies I can't help but want to bang my head against a wall when watching the 'romance' scenes between Ginny and Harry, because they're just awkward and not at all romantic.
Still, I guess it was really hard to find a way to squeeze a girl in for Harry. He certainly couldn't have been Hermione's love, neither Cho's or Luna's or whatever other girl you can recall from the books, because he sort of stands alone. All in all Ginny was the best girl for Harry, but it doesn't quite show.
Yeah... That'd be fantastic to see or read more in their life together. I would love to see that. She's a really cool character. Also wished that they could've showed more of her character development in the movies as it was in the books.
I agree, Daniel and Bonnie just didn't have great chemistry on screen, which can't be helped as they were chosen for their roles long before such things become apparent! I do think that in the sixth book we see how Harry realizes that Ginny is funny, brave, athletic and attractive, and how for him it builds to their first kiss, while for Ginny those feelings have always been there, and she'd been waiting for that kiss for years. I think their relationship didn't translate to the screen, and for that I was disappointed. However, book Harry and Ginny are still beautiful.
